I love Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia...should I read The Lord of the Rings?

My favorite kind of book is one that takes me to a far away place, involves some sort of magic and mystery, and is beautifully written. I have seen all 3 of the LOTR movies and liked them well enough, but I'm not sure if I would enjoy the books. Any opinions?
