What happened last night?

So I had an interesting experience last night and I want ur opinion. My friend with benefits came over and we watched tv. After 2 shows he decided to leave. I laughed and said 'I thought u were my hookup buddy', so he sat back down and kissed me for a little then stopped and said I think I need to get to bed. I said 'aw ur killing me'. He said sorry things didn't seem to be gelling tonight and the anticipation will make next time better. I said ok maybe this weekend. He said ok and left. Im confused, What happened?
